Biography

Dan O’Connell is an application designer, website developer, photographer, writer and entrepreneur.

Dan has over twenty years of experience in website development, application design and online education, demonstrated by several successful roles as an entrepreneur, employee and contractor. A graduate of Columbia College, Dan uses his extensive knowledge and experience of web technology to develop tools and products that facilitate communication and enhance education outcomes.

Dan owns and operates several popular websites that have consistently grown and are on track for over 500,000 unique visitors this year. His ability to monetize these websites through several different channels is an . These sites generate revenue through membership paywalls, online courses, advertising and affiliate programs.

While serving as Application Designer on the Marketing Applications team at Actuate Corporation specializing in design and interaction. Dan’s ideas and designs became the foundation for a applications being implemented to the top financial institutions in the world.

As Manager of Information Technology at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, Dan provided the technical leadership to develop cutting-edge techniques for producing media-rich blended learning courses. He also oversaw all aspects of CTU’s Information Systems, including the development and hosting of seven websites.

As Creative Director for Learning Insights, Dan provided creative vision and managed the functional processes by which this elearning publisher designed and developed best-in-class courseware for business professionals in leading business enterprises (AIG; Goldman Sachs; DuPont) and graduate schools of business (Kellogg; Olin).

For three years, Dan instructed an after-school web development programs for Tech37 at Benito Juarez High School and Gage Park High School, as well as two summers for a youth center in North Lawndale. Tech37 is a program of After School Matters, a Chicago based not-for-profit that prepares Chicago teens for their future by engaging them in hands-on, interactive activities in the out-of-school hours.

When he is not online (which is rare), Dan likes to coach baseball, grill, and enjoys drowning golf balls around the Chicago-land area with his Dad and sons. He can often be heard saying, “the Bears could win it all this year.”

Dan is married and has three sons.
